Displaying all documents from Category + Subcategories

Hello!
Is there a way to display all documents within a category (including the ones from its child categories)?

Meaning:

I have categories

  • Product Brochures [says there's 5 docs, but it has 15 counting the ones from child categories]
  • Company Brochures
  • Newsletter

And within the Products Brochures category I have subcategories like:

  • Horizontal Pumps [6]
  • Vertical Pumps [4]

But when I click on the category for Product Brochures it only displays the files that are within that level [5], omitting the ones from it's child categories. I'd think of child categories as some sort of filter for the number of documents that should be displayed. Tags have helped me, but I don't think they are enough.

Should I change my menu item configuration? Create an override? Not use child categories?

Hello Tom, you can try using the Flat List menu item. The flat list creates a list of all the documents that are in the different categories and subcategories.

To solve your problem you would need to create 3 different menu items. One for each root category you have:

- Product Brochures
- Company Brochurs
- Newsletter

Each of the menu items would be a 'flat list' DOCman menu item and will point to the specific root category.

This will give you the result you are looking for. Does that help you?
