Subscribe to categories or files

I would love to see some kind of subscribe function on files and/or categories.

So a user gets an email if the file gets updated or a new files gets uploaded in a subscribed category.

Pretty much like notify for docman but can be set on the frontend by the user itself by pressing a button and filling a form or something like that.
