Show directory path, not using breadcrums

Hi,

I like to use fileman (or docman) to let users navigate through a structure of directories with files. Now when they enter a subdirectory there is no navigation to go back to the root. You can use breadcrums but it has its limitations, especially when you want to use template overrides to display somthing above your article. Is there another way to do this?
